Ducted Air Conditioning in Teneriffe

Ducted Air Conditioning in Teneriffe, Brisbane

Ducted air conditioning in Teneriffe covers three quite different kinds of building: the character houses on Teneriffe Hill, multi-level townhouses, and large warehouse-conversion apartments in the old woolstores. Each has its own constraints on where the indoor unit, ducts and outdoor unit can go. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical is based in Toowong, Brisbane, and installs ducted systems in Teneriffe. Houses on Teneriffe Hill

Older timber homes on the hill typically have pitched iron roofs with room for an indoor unit and main ducts. The challenges are heat in the roof space, older insulation and keeping outlets tidy in decorative ceilings. Zoning by bedrooms and living areas keeps running costs sensible, and returns are placed in hallways where they do not draw attention.

Warehouse apartments

Woolstore conversions often have exposed timber or concrete ceilings, so there is no conventional roof space. Ducted systems in these apartments are usually installed in bulkheads or above lowered ceilings in bathrooms, hallways and storage areas, with outlets on the bulkhead faces. Whether that is possible depends on the building’s approvals and the space available, which we confirm on site with the building manager.

Townhouses over several levels

Three-level townhouses tend to overheat at the top. A zone for each level, with the top floor able to run on its own, keeps bedrooms comfortable without cooling empty living rooms below. The indoor unit usually sits in the roof space above the top floor.

Replacing tired ducted systems

  • assess duct condition, insulation and air leaks
  • resize for the current layout after renovations
  • add or split zones to suit how rooms are used
  • relocate return air for better airflow
  • replace controllers with zone-capable models

Outdoor unit and flood levels

Riverside parts of Teneriffe are low-lying, so we prefer roof, balcony or raised locations for the outdoor unit where the building allows. Check the address on Brisbane City Council’s Flood Awareness Map if you are unsure.
