Split-level and multi-level homes

Houses that follow the slope can have three or four floor levels. Ducting from one roof space rarely reaches the bottom rooms well, so we may suggest two smaller ducted units, one for each level, or ducted upstairs with a split system for a downstairs rumpus room. Each level heats differently, and separate control keeps everyone comfortable.

Roof space and indoor unit position

We check the roof void for headroom, framing, insulation and a safe walkway before choosing where the indoor unit sits. On older Queenslanders with high pitched roofs there is usually plenty of space; on skillion-roofed extensions there may be none, and those rooms need a different approach. The outdoor unit on a sloping block may need a frame or a slab cut into the bank.

Zoning

Bedrooms, living areas and a home office are the usual zones. On a hillside home with big west-facing glass, the living zone often needs more capacity than its floor area suggests. A return air grille in a central hall keeps noise away from bedrooms.

Replacing an older ducted system

Plenty of Bardon homes have a ducted unit fitted when the house was last renovated, now loud, slow to cool the far bedrooms and controlled by a single wall panel. Swapping just the unit rarely fixes that. We inspect the duct runs, the joins at each outlet and the zone motors, keep the good parts and redesign the rest.
