Interwar houses with extensions

A typical Camp Hill renovation keeps the front bedrooms and adds a large kitchen and casual living room at the back. The original roof usually has plenty of space for an indoor unit and ducts. The extension may have a raked ceiling with no cavity at all. In that case ducts can often reach the new room from the old roof through a short bulkhead, or the living area is given its own zone with a high wall return.

Western sun on the slopes

Homes facing west down the hill heat up from mid-afternoon. Zoning by orientation, rather than strictly by room type, helps: the western rooms can run while the cooler eastern side is off. Outlets and returns are sized so the far end of the house is not starved of air.

High-set and split-level homes

On steep blocks, a house may be high-set at the back and close to the ground at the front. The outdoor unit then needs a stable base on sloping ground or a wall bracket, with drainage and service access. Condensate lines are run to a suitable drainage point rather than left dripping onto garden beds.

Upgrading an old ducted system

If the existing system is noisy, short-cycles or leaves bedrooms warm, the ducts, zone dampers and return air path may be the problem rather than the unit. We inspect the whole layout before quoting a replacement so the new unit is not let down by old ducting.
