Ducted Air Conditioning in Kelvin Grove

Ducted Air Conditioning in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane

Ducted air conditioning makes most sense in Kelvin Grove’s larger homes: the Queenslanders that have been raised and built in underneath, the renovated cottages with extensions out the back, and the townhouses spread over two or three levels. One indoor unit, hidden in the roof or ceiling space, feeds every room through ducts, and zones let you cool only the parts of the house in use. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical is based in Toowong, Brisbane, and installs ducted systems in Kelvin Grove. Call 0450 963 633.

Zoning that matches how you live

A common Kelvin Grove layout puts bedrooms upstairs in the original house and living areas downstairs in the built-in level. Zoning those two floors separately means you can run the bedrooms overnight and the living rooms during the day, rather than conditioning the whole house all the time. In a townhouse we often add a third zone for a top-floor study or loft.

What the roof space allows

The indoor unit and main ducts need height, access and a structure that can carry them. Original Queenslander roofs are usually generous, but a later skillion extension may leave almost no space above the ceiling. We inspect before quoting, and if a room cannot be reached with a duct, we will say so and suggest a split system for that room instead.

Replacing an older ducted system

  • inspect existing ducts for crushing, gaps and poor insulation
  • check whether the system was sized for the house before it was extended
  • re-zone to suit the current floor plan
  • reposition return air grilles that whistle or starve the unit
  • upgrade the controller to one that handles zones properly

Townhouses and body corporate rules

In a townhouse complex, the outdoor unit location and any roof penetrations usually need body corporate approval. We supply the drawings and specifications needed and plan the install around the approved position.

Equipment and power

We can supply and install ducted systems from Mitsubishi Electric, Actron Air and Daikin, selected for the house rather than the brochure. A ducted system needs its own circuit, and as a licensed electrical contractor we handle the switchboard and wiring as part of the install.
