Ducted Air Conditioning in Chapel Hill

Ducted Air Conditioning in Chapel Hill, Brisbane

Chapel Hill’s detached homes, many split-level or elevated on hilly lots against the Mt Coot-tha reserve, can be a good match for ducted air conditioning, but the layout of each house decides how the system is planned. Roof space, the number of levels and how quiet the outdoor unit needs to be all matter. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical is based in Toowong, Brisbane, on the other side of Mt Coot-tha, and supplies and installs ducted systems in Chapel Hill homes. Call 0450 963 633.

Split-level homes

A split-level house has rooms at several heights, often with short flights of stairs between them. Ducts can usually reach the upper levels through the roof space, but rooms on the bottom level may sit under a floor rather than a roof. Options include bulkheads, a separate zone fed through a ceiling cavity, or a split system for that one area. We look at the house before recommending an approach.

Elevated homes on slopes

On an elevated home, the outdoor unit often sits on a pad under the house or on a bracket off the deck structure. It needs solid mounting so vibration does not travel through timber floors, plus clear airflow and service access. Condensate has to drain away from paths and stairs.

Quiet in a bushland setting

Many Chapel Hill streets are quiet at night, so outdoor unit noise is noticed. We place units away from bedrooms, yours and the neighbours’, and choose positions where walls or landscaping do not reflect sound back towards the house.

Planning checklist

  • roof pitch and clearance for the indoor unit
  • zones for living, sleeping and lower-level rooms
  • supply outlet and return air grille positions
  • outdoor unit position, mounting and drainage
  • clearance from any LPG cylinder valves
  • switchboard check and dedicated circuit

Replacing a tired system

If your existing ducted system is uneven, noisy or no longer keeps up, the ducts, insulation and zoning should be assessed with the new equipment, not after it. Ducted systems we can supply and install include Mitsubishi Electric, Actron Air and Daikin.

Split or ducted for Chapel Hill?

If only a few rooms need cooling, separate split systems are often simpler; see air conditioning in Chapel Hill. Ducted is the choice when you want most of the house conditioned with discreet ceiling outlets.
