Zoning a larger home
A ducted system is only as good as its zoning. In a big Kenmore house, separate zones for the living areas, the main bedroom wing, children’s or guest bedrooms, and perhaps a downstairs rumpus or office mean you cool only what is in use. Ask how many zones the proposed system supports, which rooms can share a zone, and how the controller works day to day.
Two-storey and split-level houses
Upstairs bedrooms under the roof heat up first, while lower levels built into a slope can stay cooler. A two-storey home may suit one larger system with upstairs and downstairs zones, or two smaller systems, depending on roof space and how ducts can reach the lower floor. Placing the return air grille well, often in a central hallway or stairwell, keeps air moving between levels.
Outdoor unit location
Large ducted outdoor units need clear airflow, a solid pad and access for servicing.
