Older houses: from electric to gas

Where an older Auchenflower house has never had gas, a new cooktop or hot water unit means bringing in a supply. Auchenflower is north of the river, inside the AGN natural gas network area, yet many properties are not connected, so LPG is often the practical choice. On a sloping block, the cylinders need a level, ventilated position with clear access for exchange deliveries, and the pipe run from bottles to kitchen has to be planned around stumps, stairs and garden beds.

Apartments and strata

In apartment buildings, gas supply, meters and shared pipework are usually controlled by the body corporate. Before adding a cooktop or barbecue point on a balcony, confirm what the by-laws allow and whether the building has a gas supply to your unit at all. Gas hot water

New and replacement hot water systems in Queensland must store water at 60°C or higher and deliver it to bathrooms at no more than 50°C, using a temperature control device. LPG cylinder safety at home

Keep cylinders upright, outdoors and away from drains and ignition sources, including air conditioner outdoor units. Check the test date stamped on each bottle; it is valid for 10 years. Never refill a cylinder yourself, and leave valve repairs to a licensed gasfitter. Since April 2022, portable appliances use LCC27 connections, and POL-to-LCC27 adaptors should not be used.
