Gas Fitter in Toowong, Brisbane
Toowong is our home suburb. Between Mount Coot-tha and the Brisbane River, its rolling hills hold a mix of detached Queenslanders, townhouses and medium-density unit blocks, plus the cafés and food outlets around Toowong Village and Coronation Drive. Some of those buildings are connected to natural gas; plenty of hillside houses run their cooktop and hot water from LPG cylinders. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical is based in Toowong, Brisbane, and arranges licensed gas fitting for both. Call 0450 963 633 to describe the appliance and the property.
Natural gas or LPG in Toowong?
Toowong sits on the north side of the river, in the area served by the AGN natural gas distribution network. Whether a particular street, house or unit block is actually connected varies, so the first step is to confirm what supply the property has. Where there is no reticulated gas, LPG cylinders are the usual alternative. An appliance must be set up for the gas type it will run on, so tell us which you have when you call.
Gas appliances we connect
- gas cooktops and freestanding upright cookers
- gas hot water units, storage and continuous flow
- outdoor barbecue points and gas bayonets for decks and balconies
- indoor bayonet points for portable heaters
- new pipework, extensions and relocations of gas lines
- disconnection and capping when an appliance is removed
Queenslanders, townhouses and units
A high-set Queenslander usually lets gas pipework run neatly under the floor, but the cylinders still need a sensible, ventilated spot that can be reached for exchange on a sloping block. In a townhouse or unit, gas work inside your dwelling is separate from the building’s shared supply, so the body corporate may need to be involved before new pipework or a bayonet is added. Before connecting an extra appliance, a gasfitter has to check the supply is adequate, including meter capacity, pipe sizing and, for LPG, cylinder storage.
LPG cylinder safety
LPG bottles carry a test date that is valid for 10 years. Exchanges and refills are done by LPG retailers, never at home, and only a licensed gasfitter may repair or remove a cylinder valve. Since 1 April 2022, new and retested cylinders have LCC27 valves; do not use adaptors between old POL fittings and LCC27 connections. Air conditioner outdoor units are ignition sources and must be kept clear of the zone around cylinder valves, which matters on tight Toowong side setbacks.
Compliance on completion
Only a licensed gasfitter can install, alter, repair, test or certify a gas system in Queensland, and you are entitled to ask to see the licence. When we install or alter a gas system, the gas system compliance certificate is issued to the owner on completion, with a copy sent to the network operator as required. The proposed gas scope and relevant licensing arrangements must be confirmed before work is accepted.
Licences
Gas work is carried out under Gas Work Licence LIC-GWL-025881, held by Tiancong Wu (Type A, LPG and natural gas). QBCC licence 15409163; Queensland Electrical Contractor Licence 91748; ABN 62 672 328 853. Managing Director Tim Wu has 20+ years’ experience.
