Gas Fitter in Red Hill

Gas Fitter in Red Hill, Brisbane

When a Red Hill Queenslander gets a new kitchen, the gas cooktop often moves, and on a house perched on a steep block the pipework underneath can be longer and more awkward than it looks from inside. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical is based in Toowong, Brisbane, and provides licensed gas fitting for Red Hill homes and the small food businesses near Musgrave Road. Call 0450 963 633.

Running gas under a high-set house

On the low side of a Red Hill street, the floor of the house can be well above the ground, so gas pipe is run along the bearers and secured, with protection where it passes through walls or near stairs. On the high side, the house may sit close to the ground with little room underneath, and the route might need to go around the outside. We work out the run, pipe size and isolation points before cutting anything.

LPG on a slope

Where there is no natural gas main in the street, homes run on LPG cylinders. On steep sites, finding a level, ventilated cylinder position with the required clearances from windows, doors and drains, and a path a delivery driver can actually use, is often the hardest part. Sometimes the existing cylinders are fine and only the regulator or pigtails need replacing.

Common Red Hill gas jobs

Most of our gas work in the suburb comes from renovations and replacements. That includes moving a cooktop into a new island bench, connecting a separate wall oven, and swapping a failed storage heater for a wall-hung continuous flow unit. Outside, owners ask for a bayonet on the deck for a barbecue or a patio heater. Inside, an indoor bayonet suits a portable heater for the cooler months. We also relocate or replace LPG cylinders and regulators, and cap old points left behind when a kitchen moves. Small cafes near the shops call us for cooker and hot water connections.

Gas and the Ithaca end of the suburb

Houses on the flatter ground towards Ithaca Creek and the Enoggera Terrace shops tend to be closer to the ground, so a new gas line is sometimes run externally along the wall in protected pipe. Wherever the route goes, the pipe is tested for leaks before the appliance is commissioned and handed over.

Your compliance certificate

Every installation or alteration ends with a gas system compliance certificate from the licensed gasfitter. File the owner’s copy with your building approval and renovation paperwork, since buyers and certifiers may ask for it.

Gas smell at home?

Close the cylinder or meter valve, leave lights and switches alone, air the house out and phone the distributor’s fault line once you are outside.
