Zoning old and new parts of the house
The original rooms and the newer extension usually behave differently. Old timber rooms with tall ceilings lose cool air through gaps and windows, while a newer insulated extension with big glass doors can overheat in the afternoon sun. Zoning them separately lets you run each area to suit, and keeps the system from working hard to cool rooms nobody is using.
Reaching a built-in lower level
Getting conditioned air from a roof-mounted indoor unit down to a ground floor built in under the house is one of the trickier parts of an Ashgrove ducted design. Options include running a duct through a wall cavity or cupboard, using a separate small system for the lower level, or keeping the downstairs on its own split system. We look at the house before recommending any of them.
Roof space checks
Before quoting, we look at the roof: how much room there is for the indoor unit, how ducts can reach each room, the condition of the ceiling and insulation, and safe access for servicing. Older roof spaces sometimes need extra support for the unit or improved insulation for the system to perform well.
Replacing an existing ducted system
- inspect existing ductwork, outlets and return air before reuse
- resize the system if the house has been extended
- add zones for new rooms
- relocate the outdoor unit away from bedrooms
- upgrade to a modern wall or app controller
