Air Conditioning in Chapel Hill

Air Conditioning in Chapel Hill, Brisbane

Many Chapel Hill homes are split-level or elevated to suit their slopes, and plenty back onto the quiet of the Mt Coot-tha reserve. That combination puts two things at the top of the list when choosing air conditioning: getting cool air to rooms on different levels, and keeping outdoor units quiet in a setting that is often quiet at night. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical is based in Toowong, Brisbane, just over Mt Coot-tha, and fits split systems throughout Chapel Hill. Call 0450 963 633.

Split system or ducted?

For a detached house where only some rooms need cooling, split systems are flexible and simple: one in the main bedroom, one in the living area, perhaps one in a study. When most of the house needs conditioning and there is roof space to work with, a ducted system with zones may suit better; read more on our ducted air conditioning in Chapel Hill page. We explain the trade-offs for your house rather than pushing one answer.

Split-level and elevated homes

In a split-level house, each level tends to behave like its own zone: the upper level warms up under the roof, while lower rooms dug into the slope can stay cooler. Placing units on each level, sized for the rooms they serve, usually works better than one large unit at the top of the stairs. On elevated homes, outdoor units can go on a bracket or a pad under the house, with condensate drained away from walkways.

Quiet operation near the bush

  • outdoor units placed away from bedrooms, yours and next door
  • solid mounting to limit vibration through timber floors
  • inverter units that run at low speed once the room is cool
  • clearance from LPG cylinder valves where bottles are used

Electrical supply

Each new unit gets its own circuit, wired by our electricians after a look at the switchboard. If you are thinking about a controlled-load tariff for cooling, ask about Energex Tariff 33 and its evening off-period. For running costs, the Australian Government suggests a thermostat setting between 25 and 27°C.
