Ducted in a character home
In a restored Queenslander with VJ walls and decorative ceilings, the aim is to keep the system almost invisible. That means slim ceiling outlets placed with the room’s proportions in mind, a return air grille in a hallway rather than a feature room, and duct runs kept in the roof space. Where the original house has been raised and built in underneath, the lower level can be served through bulkheads or a separate zone.
Post-war homes and low roof pitch
Many post-war Indooroopilly houses have low-pitched roofs and little room above the ceiling. That can make it hard to fit a standard indoor unit and ducts, and access for future servicing needs thought.
