Electrician in Paddington

Electrician in Paddington, Brisbane

Paddington’s Queenslanders, many dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and its workers cottages on small blocks were wired for a very different era. Rewiring and switchboard upgrades in these homes need to respect their character, while multi-level houses on the suburb’s steep ridges face the 2027 smoke alarm rules on every storey. Cockatoo Plumbing Electrical provides electrical work for Paddington and Rosalie homes and the shops and cafés on the ridgetop terraces. Call 0450 963 633 to talk about your property.

Electrical work in Paddington and Rosalie

From cottages around Baroona Road and Nash Street in Rosalie to houses across the hills, we handle:

  • rewiring of older homes
  • switchboard upgrades and safety switches
  • interconnected smoke alarms
  • lighting, power points and ceiling fans
  • EV charger installation
  • fault finding and repairs

Rewiring old Queenslanders and cottages

Old wiring and switchboards were not designed for air conditioning, induction cooking and EV chargers. In a character home, the challenge is upgrading without damaging VJ walls, ornate ceilings or original joinery. We run new cabling through roof spaces and under the floor of high-set houses wherever possible, and agree any access points with you first.

Smoke alarms on every storey

From 1 January 2027, all Queensland homes must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms complying with AS 3786-2014 and less than 10 years old. They are required in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home and on every storey. If your Paddington home has more than one level, for example a high-set house with rooms built in underneath, each storey needs its own alarm. Hardwired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician.

Buying or renting out a home? Approved safety switches are required on all power-point circuits within 90 days of becoming the owner, or within 90 days of a tenancy starting.

Shops and cafés on Given and Latrobe Terraces

Retail runs along Paddington’s ridgetop roads, Given Terrace and Latrobe Terrace. For shops and cafés we can install lighting, power and circuits for equipment, and carry out repairs. Confirm access and building requirements with your landlord before work begins.
